Jessi Wendlandt - Web Design

More About Me

I hail originally from the Milwaukee area but have lived in Oshkosh and worked for both Ripon College and UW-Oshkosh as an Academic Advisor in the past. I moved to the Waupaca area in 2018 and have been working for UW-Stevens Point ever since. I successfully moved out to the country in 2022 where my husband and I manage six acres of forest that inspires and refreshes us on a daily basis.

My Approach to Design

My ultimate goal for any website that I design is to meet the purpose of the website for both the client and the visitors. This begins with taking the time to get to know the client and their goals for the website, as well as taking the time to thoroughly research the intended visitors to the website and what their needs may be. The process continues by focusing on accessible web design, while continually checking in with my clients to ensure the design is moving towards the vision that they had. I am passionate about striking that balance between the vision of the clients with what is most engaging, accessible, and easy to navigate for the intended visitors.

My Career Goals

My heart will always be in higher education and seek to use my web development and design skills for this industry. With my background in advising and working with hundreds of students every semester, I bring a feet-on-the-ground approach to design that adapts to the ever-changing needs of potential students, current students, staff, faculty, employers, stake holders, and the community.

In addition to web development and design, I also am very interested in instructional design. In my current position at UW-Stevens Point, I create many of the educational documents that we use with students. I also lead the development and maintenance of our orientation course in Canvas, the learning management system that UW-Stevens Point utilizes for their course content. I am fascinated by how we can use technology, intentional design, and theories of learning to provide a variety of modalities for students to learn a variety of subject areas.

Outside of the world of academia, I also have a heart for small and medium sized businesses, and seek to use my design and development skills for our own business, New Leaf Sculpture, LLC, but also would love to take on projects for other small and medium sized businesses either short-term or long-term.
